Hot Fuzz - Review

This movie is brilliant! Everything about it is superb! In my eyes, the worst crime a comedy can commit is not being able to make its audience laugh. I am here to tell you that I cannot think of a movie that sends the audience so many jokes so fast and they all hit. I will tell all my North American friends that this humour isn't really seen on this side of the pond. Humour here is much cheaper. Add in a fart sound effect, have some cute innocent kid drop some F-Bombs. In Britain, their jokes are oozing with irony and innuendo. It is extremely clever, quick, witty and perfect. There are lots of jokes that make you stop to think about them for a second, and then they send you a perfectly placed slapstick gag. It's a perfect balance. To deliver all this comedy, we have Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. They make a great comedic team as the two main "policeman officers" and have wonderful chemistry. One thing that stood out to me was the editing. Extremely quick cuts! This allows the filmmakers to make something boring, exciting. It's a bit hard to explain, but trust me, you'll notice it when you see this film. This was the first movie I've seen by Edgar Wright and this team and I can't recommend this film enough! One of my favourites of all time!
