Get your hate mail out! I didn't really like National Lampoon's Vacation. However, this is coming from a 24 year old watching it in the year 2020. This film came out in 1983. My parents had JUST met each other. So this film had been around for a while before the thought of me even existed. It must have been hilarious to people back in the day because of the following this movie has, because I can see a funny movie in here. However after watching many comedies myself and how times have changed and how comedy has changed, I don't think National Lampoon's Vacation necessarily holds up. Sure, there were still some genuine funny moments and Chevy Chase is always great (especially when he freaks out and the profanity starts flying) but I felt like I saw the jokes coming a mile away. When I can predict the jokes before they happen, that's a bad sign. This may not be a fair review, but through the passage of time, this film doesn't hit the funny bones in the right places. However, comedy is very subjective, so I'm sure many of you will still find this movie funny!
