Lee Daniels' The Butler - Review

For some reason, this movie reminds me of Forrest Gump. I guess it's because we follow one man's life through the history of the United States in the mid 20th Century. Instead of following a mentally handicapped man from Alabama, we follow a butler in the White House. The story about the son going down south and fighting for equal rights was good stuff, especially the scene with the KKK on the bridge but where the movie shined for me was watching all these beloved actors play all different presidents. Robin Williams as Eisenhower was good, James Marsden was great as JFK, John Cusack was actually pretty good as Nixon, Liev Schreiber played an OK LBJ but Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan.....HOLY CRAP! He looks just like him. The voice could have used some work but I mean wow! For some reason, for me, the presidents stole the show along with Oprah Winfrey. ] I didn't see Mrs. "YOU GET A CAR! YOU GET A CAR!", I saw Gloria Gaines. I don't think I would watch it again anytime soon because it's not one of those movies you can watch over and over, but I'm glad I was able to add it to my watch-list.
