I don't normally like to call films, "popcorn movies" only because it seems be used as an excuse. If someone is complaining about how a movie has terrible writing, is full of plot holes, and has acting worse than a middle school play, if someone enjoys said movie, they normally come back with a, "Can't you just sit back and enjoy it? It's a popcorn movie!" If I were to ever use that line, it would be for Under Siege. Although this film is very ridiculous, in my eyes, it is completely awesome. The action scenes are great, the story, while stupid is fun to watch and Steven Seagal, although a terrible actor, is likeable to watch. I don't know what it is, but I love him as an action star. This was the golden age of action films and this one isn't talked about very much. However, if you and your buddies crack open some beers and give this film a watch, it's a great time. Something is just so satisfying about watching Steven Seagal grab a steak knife, throw it across the ship's kitchen right into some henchmen's neck. I watched this film with my dad and he has this very distinct laugh whenever some henchmen gets brutally murdered in a ridiculous way. It's the kind of laugh where you are trying not to because of the sheer violent nature of what you are laughing at, but those are the best times at the movies. If you've seen Die Hard too many times, give this one a shot.
