Public Enemies - Review

I saw the trailer for this movie when it came out a while back but I never saw it. One trip into a local value village a few days ago, I saw Public Enemies on the shelf. I know I could have just watched it on the internet, but I had a good feeling about buying it and boy am I glad I did. This is a fantastic movie. I have always been interested in gangsters in the 30's and 40's so this movie was right up my alley. Johnny Depp kills it in the lead role. I am a big Johnny Depp fan and it is nice to see him play a serious character other than playing a clown in so many franchises. Christian Bale wasn't bad in the movie except his character could have been played by anybody. Basically, he doesn't bring anything particularly unique to this movie. Marion Cotillard is in the same boat as Christian Bale, but she does pour her heart out in every (maybe not Dark Knight Rises) movie she is in. This movie did have some slow parts but I was always anticipating and waiting to see what happens next. Don't go into this expecting an straight up action film because the dramatic elements definitely outweigh the action segments. Although some parts may be slow, you are always tied to the screen because Public Enemies draws you in so well. Films that can do that effectively are good in my book!
