End of Watch - Review

David Ayer is quickly becoming one of my favourite filmmakers. Not only do I like his writing (Training Day and The Fast and the Furious) but I really enjoy his directing. End of Watch is only Ayer's 3rd time in the director's chair, and creates a wickedly entertaining and intense movie. Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena along with David Ayer's great knowledge of Los Angeles are what makes this movie work! The film is told through the use of tiny camcorders both characters bring on their daily duties in the streets and in their everyday lives. Almost as if the whole film is a video blog for YouTube. It gives the film a very unique and natural feel. Feels like watch a super high-budget version of COPS. As for the acting, it's amazing. Both Gyllenhaal and Pena have some of the best chemistry I've ever seen on screen. For anyone a fan of police shows or films about cops and robbers, this movie is for you.
