Mission: Impossible - Review

Tom Cruise is someone that is extremely polarizing. I don't know about you, but whenever the question of "who is your favourite actor?" comes up, I always say the two Tom's. Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise. People will mostly understand my first choice, however, I always seem to get some head scratching for Tom Cruise. I will say this, I do think he's a little too famous for his own good (meaning I don't see his character, I only see Tom Cruise) however, every movie he is in, I am always up for the adventure. Tom Cruise IS a character at this point, but he's a damn entertaining one and his most entertaining series is definitely Mission Impossible. Now I will admit, this movie makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever, at least during the first viewing. Even during second and third viewings, I found myself rewinding certain parts and putting on subtitles so that I was able to understand what was going on. Even then it wasn't guaranteed. This is one of those movies where a bit of research before hand might actually do you some good. Don't ask me to try to explain it because I will get a migraine. Even with the confusing plot, this movie is still extremely enjoyable and full of excitement. While the heists of these films get more and more "impossible" I still believe that this film has one of the best heist scenes in movie history. Not too complex to understand, but it will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire way. So if you want to give this franchise a shot, please don't be discouraged by the confusing plot of double-crosses and various spy jargon, the action and the rag-tag team of characters definitely make up for it. As I'm writing this review, I want to watch it again! If you are looking for a franchise for a marathon movie night and have already done the Star Wars, Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter binge watching, I would say that the Mission: Impossible movies are a great group of films to watch because every entry feels unique even with a somewhat recycled storyline. This first entry is definitely the mind-twisting drama that Brian De Palma does so well but with some great 90's action adventure spy fun!
