Mission: Impossible 2 - Review

Man, what a departure from the previous film. I feel like this film got caught up in it's time period. While the first Mission: Impossible film was rather serious with kind of dark, gloomy colours, this entry into the franchise is straight up early 2000's action film full of extremely over the top gun battles, fistfights, motorbike chases, cheesy Spanish guitar, slow-mo, and classic 'John Woo' Doves. Not to mention Limp Bizkit in the soundtrack. I know Limp Bizkit is garbage music, but hearing it here gets your heart pumping. That's actually the perfect word for it, "heart-pumping". In the first film, you were invested in the heist scenes because of the silence. Tom Cruise and his team cannot afford to be caught so they pull the stealth route for the heists. Here, Tom Cruise is sliding across a hallway with both pistols blazing while explosions are going off and doves are flying around. Totally ridiculous, totally awesome. Unfortunately, which such great action comes a mediocre story. Doesn't take away from the overall experience but, it is a step down from the original as far as story is concerned. In my original review, I recommended this franchise for a marathon night. This is the part of the night where everybody starts drinking and having a good time. Laugh at the over-the-top ridiculousness of it all and just sit back and enjoy. That what this movie is good for!
