Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol - Review

This film took everything awesome about the last film and improved on it in every way. Not only were the action and heist scenes even more creative, intense and suspenseful but the film decides to make Simon Pegg part of the main team along with adding Jeremy Renner. Now, other than Ving Rhames, the Mission: Impossible team actually seems to have a solid structure. Before, it seemed like Tom Cruise's team was always a group of interchangeable agents. Now with the additions of Renner and Pegg, I seemed to care more about the team. The women of the group however I believe will always be interchangeable much like the 007 or Indiana Jones franchise. One reason why this film in particular worked was that it was able to have a goofier tone in terms of the humour and heist scenes, however the stakes felt much higher than any other film in the franchise. The plot got a little more political but it was still able to give us fun and excitement. The Dubai tower heist might be one of my favourite heists in film history. The way how they have to improvise on the fly because they have no backup and things constantly go wrong is so nerve racking that you cannot take your eyes off screen. I'd also like to point out that I love seeing my home city be represented in films like this, I just don't like it when they have to call Vancouver, Seattle instead. Canada just can't get any attention in Hollywood can it? But I digress, another great entry to a great franchise.
