Heat - Review

After hearing so many times from various people, "You liked Collateral? You should definitely watch Heat! It's one of my favourites!" I figured now would be a great time to watch Al Pacino's and Robert De Niro's first time sharing the screen together since the second Godfather film. Unfortunately, I almost turned this movie off twice because for the first hour and twenty minutes, I was bored out of my mind. I didn't know who anybody was and what they were doing. The two reasons I didn't turn it off were the two leads, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. These two have such a big screen presence, you can't but watch whenever they are on screen. So them and them alone were the reasons I kept watching. Once the big bank robbery happens, that's when I found myself on the edge of my seat. The huge shootout in the streets was so intense. Constant gunfire and no music gives it a sense of gritty realism which makes the scene all the more tense and suspenseful. The movie went on full excitement mode afterward and I was really invested. Too bad it takes WAY TOO LONG to get there. If you don't mind sitting through a lot of confusing exposition, Heat is one wild ride! I do want to give this film another shot though and who knows, my views might change.
