Birdman - Review

Before I say anything, I just want to say that all film is subjective and there is no right or wrong answer. So before you all start screaming at me or/and threaten to unfriend me on Facebook, please note that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. With that being said... I know a lot of people will hate me for saying this... I thought Birdman was overrated. Yes the whole one-shot thing was extremely well done and yes the acting is good, but best picture worthy? First off, Michael Keaton DID do a good job as Riggan Thompson. He had some funny lines and he gave a good performance. What I didn't understand was why Edward Norton got so much praise. He's a good actor and I have nothing against the guy personally, I just didn't see what was so great about his performance. Yeah sure, he got butt naked in front of Naomi Watts and Emma Stone, big deal. I guess just after hearing so many times from friends that Edward Norton should have gotten Best Supporting Actor, I was a bit too overhyped. The one part of the movie that I loved was Zach Galifianakis. Although he wasn't in the film for long, he stole every scene he was in. I did like the "Birdman" voice talking to Riggan throughout the film. I liked those scenes the best. Plus the dream sequence where the Birdman starts following him on the street and where Riggan flies around the city was a pretty neat scene. Overall, I liked the movie. I just didn't see a masterpiece like some other people did. If you love this movie, that's great! More power to you! But out of the other Best Picture nominees, I preferred American Sniper, Boyhood, The Imitation Game, Selma, & Whiplash.
