Men In Black - Review

Men In Black is a very clever and fun movie. Although you've seen this type of plot before, the two cops with distinct personalities and the 'insert name here' device that will destroy the world, but what makes this movie work is that it is over-the-top silly and it knows that. The worst thing a movie like this can do is play this premise extremely seriously and it lose it's heart. A premise like this works with one person taking it serious like Tommy Lee Jones as Agent K and Will Smith acting like the audience as Agent J. He knows that all of this "aliens on earth" stuff is just ridiculous so he just agrees, "Alright. I'm on board" and has fun with it. Add on top of that a cartoony score by Danny Elfman and you have one silly movie. But it's silly in that awesome bad-ass kind of way. But like I said before, this movie works because of Will Smith. He is just so damn cool and hilarious that I seem to like him in every movie he is in. That perfect balance between the Fresh Prince and Sgt. Hiller in Independence Day. This movie is also really short too so it's perfect for a movie day inside on a rainy day. Check it out if you want some fun 90's sci-fi action and some great laughs!
