Toy Story 2 - Review

It's so rare that a sequel can out-do the original in it's given franchise. Especially when the first installment is so beloved by many. Obviously Star Wars and the Terminator come to mind, but Toy Story 2 is a wonderful movie. This was the first movie I ever saw in theatres way back in 1999 and it took me 16 years to watch it again while having a Toy Story marathon with my girlfriend at the time. Now with Toy Story 4 coming around the corner, it's time to look back on one of the best sequels ever!

Every time a big hit gets the sequel treatment, you almost always hear the same response. "It wasn't as good as the first one." I'll admit, I am a big culprit for saying that phrase. However, although it's neck and neck, I might enjoy Toy Story 2 more than the original. But in all honesty, all of these movies are 5/5 motion pictures, easily. The reason why sequels work is that they take the characters that we like from the original and have them face new challenges in new situations and from that, the characters grow and learn new things about the world and themselves.

The story stars all our favourite toys reprising their roles. Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear as our two leads.

This film takes the same amazing characters and throws them into new situations and makes them face new challenges. They also introduce new characters like Bullseye, Jessie, and Mrs. Potato Head. All serve as the great comedy and Jessie's story provides a lot of heart. There was also a TON of Star Wars Easter Eggs with the Buzz Lightyear versus Emperor Zurg running gags. Just a little extra fun thing the film makers added. Not spoiling anything, but the climax had me on the edge of my seat. It was very thrilling and exciting. A great film every kid should have in their collection.
