Ant-Man - Review

To review Ant-Man in one word, it would have to be 'Solid'. Ant-Man is a 'Solid' heist movie with some sleek looking superhero paint. Like Captain America: The Winter Solider, this movie went for a plot that is more in the veins of Ocean's Eleven rather than your typical superhero movie. One of the many ways this film feels fresh in the large library of films that make up the MCU. However, no story, especially a comedic one, is worth sitting through unless you have a likable hero, and Paul Rudd is a great Ant-Man. Not only is he hilarious, but you believe that he can pull off all the superhero stunts and set pieces. You don't see an SNL actor out of place, he fit right into this story. All of his sidekicks and fellow crooks fit right in too and all are hilarious. They are the reason why watching this film is probably the loudest I've laughed during a Marvel Movie. It's right up there with Guardians of the Galaxy. So the comedy is extremely well done here because it fits the story and the characters. One aspect of the movie that is rather lacking is the villain, what else is new in the MCU. He wasn't as forgettable as Ronin from Guardians of the Galaxy but he's still not very strong of a character. His backstory is rather interesting, it's just that we are told about it rather than shown it. If someone tells you to care about something in a movie, it's almost never as interesting as seeing something happen on screen and having the investment in the situation come naturally. However, they make up for that with unique and fantastic action set-pieces. Seeing Ant-Man use his powers was a real treat to watch because it was like nothing we've seen in any other movie before. I really enjoyed Ant-Man. If you like Marvel, I'm almost certain you will like Ant-Man too. And if you aren't into the giant Marvel films, I still recommend Ant-Man because it's just so much fun without having to rely on any other Marvel films before it. One of my favourite entries into the MCU!
