The Aviator - Review

I recently starting reading a book called the Rational Male. It's basically all about becoming more of an alpha male and creating a dominant mindset. After reading the book for a while, the image of Leonardo DiCaprio playing Howard Hughes came into my mind. So I decided to rewatch the Aviator. This is one of those biopics where it seems to go location A-B-C-D-E rather than location A-B-A-C-B-A-C. What I mean by that is that the story is constantly going forward with almost no time to stop and look back. First Howard is making movies then he's creating a new plane, creating an airline service to compete with Pan Am. The story is going full speed ahead. I have to give major props to the production design team here because this is such a unique looking movie. When we're in the twenties, everything seems to be a sky blue or a rose type pink or red. As time goes on, the colour begins to flesh out a little more.
On top of that, I love seeing the 1920's/30's/40's on screen so that was a treat for me. Same with seeing Leonardo DiCaprio's great performance. No matter what movie he is in, no matter what role he is playing, he is always super charming and charismatic, even when his characters is a bit of an asshole. he supporting cast is also huge and all give solid performances. Alec Baldwin, John C. Reilly, Cate Blanchett, etc. If you are a fan of Martin Scorsese movies, then you will enjoy this movie because all of his movies seem to have a very similar plot. One man rises to the top of a certain field and his arrogance and lust for power ultimately destroys him. So in that regard, it's nothing new, but it's the production design, the characters and setting that keeps this movie relevant amongst Scorsese's other movies. Overall, this is a really good biopic. It's not very often I research a movie's subject matter right after watching it. The Aviator is the exception because this movie is both incredibly interesting and very entertaining. Two of the most important traits a movie could have.
