Conspiracy Theory - Review

This movie felt like it was written by a film student who thought they were way cooler than they actually are and got lucky enough to cast A-List talent to star in their movie. This movie's story is so clunky and all over the place and it's characters are changing all the time and are not good fits with each other. Also, if your main character is a socially awkward person, he better be likable. Mel Gibson is a great actor but does nothing with this role. Is he supposed to be super smart but he is damaged through means that we never find out? Or is he just weird? I don't know. The film does a bad job explaining. I also cannot decide whether or not this film is supposed to be a self-aware thriller having fun with itself or being a super hardcore serious drama piece. The tone is really strange. One moment I know I should be scared but I keep on laughing. Also, for a film called Conspiracy Theory, I have no idea what the Conspiracy was that the film surrounded around. It seemed like a Bourne Identity type of plotline but it is so butchered through bad writing I have no idea. Skip this one folks.
