So I saw this film about a year and a half ago and my original score was a 3/5. However, I decided to give it another shot when my two friends told me they had never seen it. Now, I am not a rap guy. I can't stand most of the rap music that is burning up the charts now. Fetty Wap, Drake, Future, all those guys. I worked at a bar this summer and I had to listen to that music every night. So naturally, I'm kind of tired of it. Eminem on the other hand, I have always been a fan. I guess it's because he doesn't really fall into that 'mumble rap' category that is so popular right now. Not only are his songs great, his freestyle scenes in this movie are so damn cool. When you and your buddies start laughing about how good an insult was in a rap battle, you know that this film has got you invested. Now, there is an actual story in this movie and at the centre of it is Eminem and I'll tell you what, he is a very good actor. Sure, he is playing himself and I don't think he has too much range, but this type of character suits him perfectly. I really love the scenes where he has to act like a father to his daughter Lily or when he is emotional with his mother about how her life isn't going well. He just seems so natural. That helps up relate to him and helps up connect and invest in the story. Add in a great supporting cast, with a tight script and you got yourself a great movie. It's better than the first time I watched it.
