Moana - Review

I'm going to be hated for this one. A little background. If anyone knows me at all, they should know that I absolutely love Disney. Almost everything they make or touch has that incredible Disney Magic. Moana does not. Does that mean that it doesn't have anything good in it? Absolutely not. Visually speaking, Moana delivers on every front. The colours, the designs, the textures, it's all beautiful. I also love how Disney is able to showcase all different corners of the world and they show a whole different culture and bring it to life here. As for a straight up movie, I could predict the entire story as soon as the film began. Now, of course, films can be predictable but still be a good time. For some reason, though, Moana just didn't satisfy me. I barely laughed at the jokes and the songs failed to get me tapping my foot or humming shortly afterward. Take a film like Frozen, I was singing the songs right after the movie ended. You couldn't pay me 100 hundred dollars to sing a little bit of a song from Moana. Overall, there is nothing wrong with Moana (except one joke about social media that made me put my hands to my face in the theatre). It has beautiful colours, a solid (although predictable) story and for all you feminists out there, it has a strong female lead. Unfortunately, this film gave me nothing that made me want to come back. I would be perfectly indifferent if I never saw this film again.
