The Imitation Game - Review

This is the third film about Nazis I have seen this weekend. I didn't plan to have a Nazi themed weekend or anything, it just kind of happened. Although this film isn't really ABOUT Nazis, it's about a man named Alan Turing. This is not a war story, it is a character story. This character also happens to be a genius and a homosexual, both traits come up as major plot points in the story. So I guess you could consider this film in the realm of Queer Cinema. Don't think of it that way, though. Don't think of this film as simply another character going through hardships just because he is gay, the story is so much more. About a man that basically invented the modern day computer. In a film with excellent writing, directing, and acting from the entire cast, The Imitation is an uplifting story told through tragic circumstances. It's not really about a bunch of nerds in a room trying to break Nazi code, but more about a man learning how to get along with people, harness his brain and find his purpose. This is a great film for everybody!
