I do not watch horror movies. I'm a total wimp when it comes to that genre. So my review is not based on a large knowledge of horror films, keep that in mind. However, I will have to admit that this one is fairly clever. What happens when you are stuck in a house in the woods, with no way to call for help, a killer outside taunting you... and you're deaf. That is a unique idea. It's also not that scary or gory either (except for one scene... yeah no thanks). Except with this whole scenario, it is basically like watching two people play violent hide and seek. Also, I am really not a fan of the whole "kills for the fun of it" villain. To me, it's just a stupid gimmick to try to get the 14-year-olds who snuck into the theatre to watch an R-rated film more scared. You don't need any character development for a killer who just kills for the fun of it. No backstory, no motivation, just throw in the psychopath label. Now you could argue that this guy had some motive, but it's pretty weak. The film did have a clever little twist which included the next door neighbour's boyfriend, which I won't spoil, that did make it a bit more interesting. Is Hush really worth 100% on RT? I don't think so. Then again, I'm not a horror movie person, so what do I know right?
