The Fighter - Review

Going into this film, knowing it's a boxing movie, I went in with some certain expectations. I was waiting for another re-telling of Rocky or Southpaw or something like that. However, knowing the director, I was expecting a "look how good my actors are" type of movie. This was a perfect blend of both of those. It is a boxing movie but it doesn't feel like a direct copy of Rocky. It is a story of family and the troubles of drug addiction tearing family apart. A story like this can often lead to over acting, however, the actors, especially Christian Bale bring it. Mark Wahlberg is always great although he plays a similar note in all his movies and Amy Adams does transform into a sassy bartender, but easily the best performance is Christian Bale. Complete transformation. He deserved that Oscar 100%. All the great acting in this film really helps you connect with the characters and gets your really invested in the story, so props to the movie for doing that. The fight scenes are great as well adding in some intensity to the film. Overall, The Fighter is not a movie you absolutely need to rush out to watch right now, but if you do decide to do that, you'll have yourself a great movie to watch!
