What a great hidden gem! After looking at flights for Las Vegas not too long ago, I searched "films in Las Vegas" and stumbled across Fools Rush In. It looked like your average mediocre romantic comedy. This one just so happens to star Matthew Perry from Friends fame and Salma Hayek from... Grown Ups fame? I haven't seen her in much, to be honest. For some reason, though, I just knew that I was going to like this movie just from the poster. The film's story deals with signs and fate and maybe it was fate that made me stumble across this movie. I had a smile on my face the entire time I was watching it. Matthew Perry plays Alex Whitman (a very similar character to Chandler Bing to be honest), a nightclub construction supervisor who travels to Vegas to build a nightclub when he meets Salma Hayek's, Isabel Fuentes. They decided to get married just the second day after meeting each other and hijinks ensue. Now, this isn't one of the comedy greats of cinema, but lots of the jokes had me laughing. One scene, in particular, I won't spoil it, where Alex is hanging out with Isabel's many brothers in the desert had me laughing real good. All the supporting cast have great moments too. Alex has a business partner named Jeff who acts as the audience's voice calling out Alex for his dumb decisions and the parents of both Alex and Isabel great some great laughs. This film also dives into the deeper meaning of family and what it's like to know one's purpose and where one belongs. Pretty deep for a movie you'd think would have come out in the 90's to a mediocre box office and then just disappeared. I'm here to tell you though that if you are looking for a film late at night that is light-hearted, funny, emotional and will keep a smile on your face the whole way through, Fools Rush In is a great choice.
