I love this movie. I also love when you can come back to a movie you loved as a kid after not seeing it for a long time and appreciate it even more. After taking an acting class in film school to understand what it's like to be on the other side of the camera, I can really admire the work that both Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis do here. Both play each other in different bodies extremely well. When Jamie Lee Curtis wakes up for the first time as the teenage version of herself and looks in the mirror, it's comedy gold. You can tell that these actors are having tons of fun on screen and it shows. It makes the audience have a great time watching them. As for the jokes, one thing that really makes me sad is when you watch a movie as a kid or any comedy for the first time, laugh hysterically, and then watch it again just to be bored out of your mind. Thankfully, the jokes got better! One thing I noticed was that there are lots of body tackle jokes. "Hit Me Baby One More..." BOOM! Good old Slapstick Comedy! Lastly, what I love about this movie is that it acts as a perfect time capsule of the early 2000's. Lindsay Lohan plays in a punk rock band, her mom is a therapist who has tons of devices (which today are totally useless), the jokes and mannerisms of certain characters, the style of dress and an awesome soundtrack. It screams 2003! I think that works for its advantage. In this age of constant remakes, although this is indeed a remake, nothing is stopping Disney or any other studio to make a film with the exact same premise as this. However, it is highly unlikely that other versions will take place in the early 2000's and have the dated culture be a main part of the story. If they remade Freaky Friday again, the girl will probably be into EDM or something, the little brother will have an iPhone and Snapchat embarrassing things of her or something like that, but it won't feel like the other versions. Although I haven't seen the original, the 2003 Freaky Friday is a great gem that's a great time for everyone!
