The Accountant - Review

This was a movie I was looking forward to when I saw the first trailer. Of course, finals got in the way and I missed it when it was in theatres. Now, on a plane ride from Toronto to Boston, I was able to finally give this one a watch. Man did I dodge a bullet with this one. This movie was almost shut off on the plane. I didn't even want to finish it because this film falls into a certain category which is certain doom for films. That category is boring. Which is a shame because this film had the ingredients to be a pretty enjoyable film. Ben Affleck is one of my favourites and it is interesting seeing him play a fairly unique character. An assassin who happens to be diagnosed with autism making him super smart yet awkward with human interaction. Right off the bat, you have a fairly interesting character to build off of and the relationship they build between him and Anna Kendrick's character was actually fairly well done. Those moments of the film were the most intriguing because they felt the most real. As for the rest of the plot, I cannot tell you what happened. This film's story and the way it was told is all over the place. I get that if you show a certain event happen from one angle and show it again from another angle except with more information, it can really give the audience an "ah-ha" moment. Here, after seeing the same event happen over and over, I sat in my seat thinking, "what does this have to do with anything?" and unfortunately, I found myself thinking that question way too many times. The action scenes were actually really well executed and like I said before, the idea had promise, but this film dragged on for way too long with a plot that I still don't understand. Skip this one folks.
