Shoutout to the UV Boys for coming with me to see this movie and record a "Half in the Bag" style movie review. Link to that will be down below. Most of my immediate opinions made it into that video, but after thinking about it for a couple days, I thought I would write out some of my thoughts for those who want a quick little overview and don't feel like watching me talk for 25 minutes. While watching this movie, I wasn't enjoying myself. I thought the movie was slow, the story wasn't really going anywhere and the jokes felt really forced. However, the movie turns on a dime and suddenly becomes extremely intense, emotional and the jokes became funny What happened?! I mentioned in my video review that if I gave this film 4 stars, it would be because of the ending alone and to be honest, after giving it some thought, this is a 4-star movie. Sure the beginning was slow and not entirely interesting, but it was setting up the final showdown which was really incredible. It gave time to flesh out the characters more which made the pay-off at the ending seem more rewarding. And don't get me wrong, I didn't HATE the beginning, it's just that nothing was really spectacular and the jokes, at least for me, were fairly cringeworthy. I'm just glad that they didn't rehash the same plot as the previous film and I'm glad that they actually had a villain that was interesting and a little more complex than Ronan from the last film. This film also dives deeper into the romance between Gamora and Star-Lord and it is handled pretty well. I'm realizing while reviewing this how polarizing this film is. The more I think of the boring moments, I start to hate it. The more I think about the awesome ending (which I won't spoil) and how the characters received more interesting backstories, I start to love it. I think you can see that in the video review how when we get going on a certain topic, the conversation snowballs into a certain direction and then suddenly goes the opposite way. However, I can safely say that if they maybe shed a side-plot or two and shed some of the really forced jokes, I would have loved this movie. So I'm giving it a good score. Check it out Marvel fans!
