What Women Want - Review

Seems like an odd movie for a single guy who has been called a misogynist by several ex-girlfriends to watch, but let me tell you something, this was one of the best impulse watches on Netflix I have ever had. Just the premise alone is brilliant. A man has the ability to hear what women are thinking. Oh, the amount of opportunities for great humour and this movie takes full advantage of it. Not only that, but it's appealing to both genders. Ladies, I have heard you guys tell me time and time again that men are dumb pigs who can't take a hint. Well, it's because we aren't mind-readers. Sorry ladies. However, here comes a man, played by a handsome looking Mel Gibson who knows exactly what you want, what to say to you and, let's be honest here, be extremely successful in the bedroom. As for the guys, wouldn't it be so much easier to hear what women are thinking and act accordingly? To women's point, we are not the best at reading signs or picking up on non-verbal cues. Knowing where you stand at all times and knowing what to say or do next. If any guy says, "Nah bro. I don't need to know what they're thinking. I play for the dub (slang for WHL)", then news flash, you may need Mel Gibson's power more than anybody. So the premise alone is worth the price of admission, but the movie also has two leads in Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt that have amazing chemistry. To be completely honest, one of the more genuine, romantic and believable couples I've seen in movies. One of the best actually. Right up there with Jack and Rose from Titanic. This is the perfect date movie because not only is it romantic and has sexual tension in it, but it is also very funny and something that appeals to both men and women. Sigmund Freud, one of the great philosopher's of all time only had one question he could never figure out, and that was "What do women want?" I still have no idea and let's be honest, 99.99% of men don't either. Basing a premise around that question is pure genius and it makes for an excellent hidden gem of a movie. Check it out! Single, taken, engaged, divorced, married, whatever it may be, this is a great movie to watch!
