Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - Review

Talk about the sequel that downgrades. When I say "downgrades", I mean the overall enjoyability because the weird humour, the racist jokes and the sloppiness of storytelling and editing were definitely more prevalent. Man, I don't even know where to start here. I guess I should mention how I hate that the continuity of these movies always seems to contradict each other. First, it was the cube that brought the Transformers to Earth. Now, in this movie, apparently, it was the Transformers that built the pyramids. In future movies, Transformers it turns out to have been to this planet numerous times and for me, it kind of ruins it. The first film took so much time to introduce the Transformers and the characters and showcase their arrival and reveal to Earth. Yes, you could argue that it took it's time because it was the first film and the foundation of the franchise needed to be set, but surely if Transformers had been to Earth so many damn times, people would probably know about it. As for the story, it starts out like a repeat of the first film. The Decepticons want the remains of the Cube from the first film to bring back Megatron. However, it is then mixed with how there was an old Transformer that was on Earth thousands of years ago that was defeated and wants to come back? I don't really understand it nor did I really care. They added some characters that were kind of annoying like the two ghetto Transformers and Sam's roommate (I forget his name and I don't really care). Megan Fox's acting was all over the place in this movie. Some scenes it seemed like she did not want to be there and others she tries way too hard (the ending). As for the action and the grand scale of things, Michael Bay definitely makes it bigger. More explosions, more stunts, more robot fights and too be honest, you get numb to it. I will admit, however, that the giant Transformer made up of all those giant cranes and vehicles was pretty cool to see and there were a couple really intense moments like when Megatron picks up our heroes from a moving car or that slow-mo shot of Shia and Megan running looked nice, but from the sloppy storytelling to the wide range of tones and the overabundance of action, this movie is not really worth your time. For the record, I didn't hate it. It's watchable and some scenes did make me chuckle and there were two scenes in particular that actually got me a little emotional, but overall, you can stick with the first entry.
