True Lies - Review

This might be my favourite Arnold Schwarzenegger movie ever. Although I do love the first two Terminator films and I haven't seen them in a while, right now, True Lies is my favourite Schwarzenegger film. Why? Because this film is the perfect mix between comedy and action. Tom Arnold alone brings this film to a perfect rating because of his great wit and perfect timing on jokes. Sure, like every Schwarzenegger movie, this film has it's one-liners, but they aren't cringeworthy and the script lends itself to some great humour between Schwarzenegger and his co-stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Bill Paxton and like I mentioned above Tom Arnold. Add in the great comedy with the great action set-pieces. Almost 25 years old and this film's action still rivals action scenes of today's blockbusters. You can feel that all this action was done in camera and if there was any CGI, it was minimal. The horse chase through the city, the gunfights and the car/helicopter chase on the bridge off the coast of Miami and the final showdown with a harrier jet are all thrilling and exciting. Funny enough, I would recommend this movie for date night because not only is it funny and action packed, deep down, it's a story about marriage and relationships. The action and comedy is what makes the story feel fresh and exciting but it still has that sense of romance that works well for date night. That is of course if your date isn't one of those "The Longest Ride is my favourite movie of all time" types. Not saying there is anything wrong with that, just saying that this might not be the movie for them. However, if you are the type of person who likes to laugh, be entertained and be on the edge of your seat, grab yourself your favourite beverage, a big bowl of popcorn or your favourite type of chips and go watch True Lies. You will not be disappointed!
