I am deeply concerned. I think there is something wrong with me. Why is it that lately, every movie (Wonder Woman and Baby Driver are exceptions) that comes out that receives great reviews, I leave the theatre feeling extremely underwhelmed? Is it that I hype the movie up too much? Have I become a film snob? I don't know. However, if I keep seeing big movies like this that are supposed to be amazing according to sites like Rotten Tomatoes and just the average public, then I'm going to feel like I'm wasting my money than the movie theatre. Now, I really liked "Rise" and I loved "Dawn", so then why in the world was I bored out of my mind in this movie? When this movie started with its first actual war scene, I was so excited that this film was going to be a masterpiece. On top of that, a couple minutes later was this extremely intense stealth-like scene and not giving anything away, but it was emotionally intense as well. I thought that this movie was going to be even better than a masterpiece... then the movie kept going, and going, and going, and going, and going, and oh my goodness this movie felt so damn long and to be honest, nothing was really happening that kept me interested. They come across another talking ape that they have never seen before and he gives a pretty interesting scene that adds to the Planet of the Apes lore, but that's it for another 30 minutes. Nothing interesting. Once Woody Harrelson's character comes into the story more, then I was a bit more invested, but I don't know man. I can't really put it into a thought processed analysis of why this film didn't work. I was just bored. Plain and simple. I guess with a title like, "War for the Planet of the Apes", there was barely any war that was going on. You just heard about it and saw tiny glimpses of it here and there. Now that I am thinking about it, the second and third movie of this series should have switched titles. This should have been "Dawn" while the second film should have been "War". So all in all, I thought this movie was just "okay". Trust me, I really wish I could tell you that this movie was amazing and one of the best films I had ever seen, but I cannot do that. Sorry to disappoint you guys. However, this film is loved by many critics and many fans. Who knows, you might be part of that majority. I hope you guys like it much more than I did.
