The Hurt Locker - Review

Another movie where all of my closest friends would lose their minds after discovering that I have never seen it. Well, cross that one of the list fellas. I have now finally seen The Hurt Locker. So is it good? Yes, it is. Very much so. However, don't go into this movie expecting Black Hawk Down 2 or the live-action adaptation for Call of Duty because this film dives deeper into the battle that soldiers face. That battle is in their minds. This isn't a movie where soldiers go into a town full of hundreds of armed militia or terrorists guns blazing while Hans Zimmer's music is playing. This film is fairly slow and shows the life of a bomb squad in their 12-month tour of duty. Dealing with locals, different bomb diffusing situations, arguments, and tension within the group itself, meeting up with soldiers from other western countries, taking heavy sniper fire and of course death within the military. This is a soldier's life folks. It's dirty, disgusting and danger is around every corner. The Hurt Locker explores how one man can become addicted to it. Back in America, Canada, Britain, or whatever country they come back to never feels the same after a tour of duty and being exposed to hostile fire and danger. If you go into this movie with that mindset and not expect a shoot 'em up battle film, or are super interested in the military or anything along those lines, this is a movie for you. Dive deep into the mind of a soldier.
