Spy Kids - Review

Yet, another trip down memory lane and thankfully, this film still holds up. This film is a great kids movie. With that being said, I should mention some things. With kids movies, it can sometimes be tough watching them as an adult having never seen the film as a kid because there is no nostalgia factor involved in the viewing experience. I watched Spy Kids growing up so I already had an attachment to the story, but I think I can say safely that if you have children of your own or are babysitting young kids around the ages of 7-10, they would love this movie. Now, I have seen kids movies where the kids act like super cool, badass adults and it fall totally flat, but Spy Kids doesn't for one simple reason, the two main kid actors talk and behave like actual kid siblings. They fight, they bicker back and forth and they sound like actual children. Sure, Carmen (the girl) acts all cool and tries to act tough which could be very annoying, but let's be honest, many 10 year old girls acted like that back then. Now they got Instagram and fidget spinners, but Spy Kids really taps into the imagination of the young mind. Rounding out the two main leads are a great set of supporting cast who actually take this movie fairly seriously. With a title like "Spy Kids", I could see many actors just phoning it in. However, Alan Cumming and Antonio Banderez along with others, actually have some good comedic timing and you can tell they are having fun with it. That's what this movie is, fun. Fun for families and especially, fun and awesome for kids!
