Shrek - Review

I don't think I watched a movie so many times back to back as a kid more than Shrek. When watching it again as an adult, I could recite almost the entire movie. Obviously, there were some moments of hidden adult humour that I didn't understand, but man this movie was quotable as hell. "I'm making waffles" probably being one of the biggest in my eyes. However, like I mentioned many times with some of the Disney films I reviewed this summer, to truly test how good a children's film is, it needs to stand the test of time. This viewing of Shrek was not as funny and not as entertaining as I remember. Now, was that because I saw it over and over again as a kid and I just watched it too much? Or is it because I'm starting to see the flaws in Shrek. As a kid, I saw Shrek as this hilarious, epic, adventure. This last viewing, I just saw an Ogre and a princess flirting for an hour while walking through the woods... not very exciting right? I definitely saw more of the message this time around. Don't judge people before you get a chance to know them. While it's a powerful message and I've seen it many times in other kids media, it is told pretty well here and I believe it's a good message for kids to learn and even some adults to be reminded of. That goes for me too. So I would say if you have never seen Shrek, where have you been for the last 16 years? Secondly, if you are around 8-12 years old and are bored with playing with your fidget spinners, Shrek is a funny movie to check out with a pretty good message. Although it will never be as funny as it used to be and might not even be very entertaining anymore, it will always hold a place in my heart as being one of my favourites growing up.

PS - Somebody once told me the world is going to... okay, you know where I am going with this. Watch this for the Smash Mouth songs alone
