Ted - Review

This is a hilarious movie. It really does feel like a live-action Family Guy episode. From the cutaway jokes, to the fart humour and some familiar voices (Seth MacFarlane, Mila Kunis and Patrick Warburton among others) it really is a family episode on the big screen. Now, picture this. Take the Toy Story element of having a child's beloved stuffed animal come to life and talk, add in tons of R-rated humour and add in your typical romance plot and you have Ted. Sounds like a fun mix right? It is. However, what really makes this movie work is that you really believe that Ted is right there in front of the camera. Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis do a fantastic job acting with literally nothing in front of them and you really feel like Ted is real. There may have been one shot where I noticed he was CGI, but he looked great. Because of this, and the great effort put in by the actors, you get really invested into the story. You care about the characters, you are immersed in the story space and when the film gets emotional, it really hits you. Yeah, I know right? I got torn up about a movie with a man and his talking, pot-smoking teddy bear. If a film like this can make me do that, it deserves a great score and a definite recommendation to me.
Warning parents, this movie is NOT for children. Trust me. I tried to have this conversation with a woman who brought her 5 kids into the theatre to watch this movie. Let's just say that after the 9/11 weed smoking joke and the joke about the Boston women orgasm, they were running for the door. Hate to say I told you so Lady.
