It's weird how your opinion on movies changes over the years. When the first Shrek came out, I was around 6 or 7 years old. I thought it was the funniest thing ever! Then when Shrek 2 came out, I was 9 and I would stick by my opinion that Shrek 2 would never be better than the first. Well, it's 13 years later and I think that Shrek 2 is funnier than Shrek. I know, crazy right? I'm sure that is because I haven't seen this entry as much as the first one, but Shrek 2 is one hell of a good time. It also has a great message about relationships and how both parties have to compromise for each other. What makes this movie work is that there are so many little references to pop culture, the real world, and just a bunch of little things. I'll use the example Doug Walker used in his Dreamwork-uary series. There is a scene where some member of the kingdom is walking down a red carpet with royal guards blowing horns. They all play a little melody while the man walks down the red carpet. However, after the tune is over, one horn player starts going off and plays the Hawaii Five-O theme song before getting hit in the head. Like, who comes up with that stuff? Also, who would have seen that coming? That is why this movie is so awesome. So many little jokes here, there and everywhere with the same likable characters on another adventure.
