When walking down the halls of my local Cineplex, I noticed that they were showing many of the Studio Ghibli films and one of them, of course, being Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. I decided to pay full-price to watch this film on the big screen and I am glad I did. However, I will say right off the bat that this film is not for everybody. I can understand how some people may be turned off by the Japanese animation and story structure and themes. For me though, I liked watching something different than the average Hollywood animated film. Anime for me just feels like a different kind of magic. Everything from the character designs, to the world they create, the gorgeous imagery of the forest, the Valley of the Wind and the awesome airships to the unbelievable score that sometimes feels like a mix between an 80's synthesizer and a hockey organ, I love it all. I also liked how there wasn't a particular villain, it was just a bunch of misunderstood sides. No side is right or wrong and you understand all different party's perspectives involved. Nausicaä is a likable heroine and she keeps the movie together. Overall, if you like anime, this is a great film to check out. Even if you have never seen an Anime movie before and want something a little bit different but still as magical and epic as something like Lord of the Rings, then this is a great film to check out. I know I just said that twice, but it's really good guys! Check it out!
