Wow! I was not expecting to like this movie as much as I did. Also, fair warning, I really don't want to spoil anything about this movie because I went into it blind and came out totally amazed. It's been a very long time since I have been able to do that. It seems like every movie I go into, I at least know a tiny bit about the plot or the characters or anything like that. All I knew was that the kid is a major Vancouver Canucks fan (go kid go!) and that Brie Larson won the Oscar for this movie. On that note, I can safely say that this is one of the best performances I have ever seen from an actress. Seriously, one of the best I have ever seen. Right up there with Jodie Foster from Silence of the Lambs. Brie Larson is completely mesmerizing on screen. Absolutely fantastic. Since I am not going to go into the plot, I'm just going to leave you with the sole reason why I love this movie so much. Not only did it draw me in like no other film before it (maybe Gone Girl) but it really makes you think. I watched this movie with some of my buddies and we would look at each other and say things like, "Woah! Crazy hey? How..." and we would then think about the ideas this movie instills on us and expand on it. If a movie can make your mind race and turn with various ideas, then that's a great movie in my book. This film had me so engaged even though not much actually happens in it. Meaning there is no helicopter gun battle scenes or anything action packed. It's just people talking and it had me more engaged than half of the action films being released nowadays. Room is a fantastic movie that should be seen by everyone. Okay, maybe not everyone since there is some nightmare material for the little ones out there, but anyone over the age of... let's say 12 needs to see this movie.
NOTE: It's called "Room", not "The Room". If you watch "The Room" expecting this movie, you will be extremely disappointed.
