I knew I liked this movie, but I forgot just how much I liked this movie. Guys, I don't just like this movie. I love it! Scarface is a movie that just screams to me! You have Al Pacino giving a great performance as Tony Montana. He is such a little scumbag, yet he is likable and is such a joy to watch on screen. Al Pacino knows how to play a great gangster. Not only that, but the story is the pinnacle of the rags-to-riches storyline. The American Dream if you will. A character that comes over from a poor country, in this case, its a communist Cuba, to Miami, the land of opportunity and rises up the gangster totem pole all the way to the top. The only thing that can dethrone him is his own pride. Much like every Scorsese movie ever, this is a classic story but it is done so well. On top of that, you place the story in Miami in 1983. Now there is an opportunity to get creative with your production design, sound, camera techniques and any filmmaking choices. Great soundtrack with a great score to set the time period. Lots of neon oranges and pinks and blues to match the classic Miami sunsets and everyone dresses just so damn cool. Everyone looks like they are in an episode of Miami Vice. Not only is this movie full of the cool little things like costumes and music and the visuals, but all of those are just highlights to the great story about the rise and fall of infamous Tony Montana. Scarface... I'm gonna say it... is a perfect film!
