I love when you go back to a film that you haven't seen in a very long time and it exceeds your expectations. Well, that is the case for the Terminator. This movie is amazing. It's funny because the more amazing a film is, the harder it is to review. I feel like all the amazing things rush through my brain so fast that I don't even know where to start. How about this, we start with the Terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger. This is the role he was born to play. A huge, tough, almost undefeatable, relentless killing machine. The voice, the look, his mannerisms all fit the role perfectly. This role completely transformed him into a walking punchline. "I'll be back" or at least a joke of that line seems to follow Arnold everywhere he goes. One thing that I really like about this movie is that the tone is very intense. When one character is being hunted down, most films don't capture the sense of urgency and fear that this film does. Not only is the Terminator a scary idea, but the lighting, the score and action sequences make chase very real and frightful. It's definitely a movie that will keep you on edge. But seriously though, just listen to the premise again. A killing machine is sent back in time to kill the mother of the man who will lead the human resistance after a nuclear age where machines have taken over the world. Like, is that not the coolest premise ever! Great acting, great direction, a great script, a kickass synth score, a badass killing robot, exciting action scenes, even for 1984 and an amazing premise. This movie is wonderful. What's even crazier is that the sequel... is even better.
