You ever have that one movie in your collection or that one movie you try to watch over and over again and you never seem to finish it? Well, that is Ratatouille for me. I have seen the beginning of this film so many times for it was one of the only films that my band teacher would put on the little TVs in Greyhound bus we would use to travel from gig to gig. Over ten years have passed and I decided to finally watch the rest of this movie. What I got was an incredibly cute little tale about a rat in a kitchen. Sounds gross right? Well, Pixar decided to give a twist to that problem that many kitchens face all around the globe by having a rat named Remy being a masterful chef and using a garbage boy as a disguise. Remy would hide in the chef's hat of Linguini (our garbage boy) and control him by pulling his hair and creating many amazing dishes. Pretty clever idea I must say. It really is quite an accomplishment being able to take a creature like a rat and somehow make him cute and lovable. That word perfectly describes this movie, "cute". A little tiny creature cooking in one of the most romantic cities in the world. Most movies I will complain that they don't do the location justice or they make the location much more exciting than it actually is (I'm looking at almost any movie that takes place in Hollywood), but Pixar really captures the essence of Paris. I mean, it is just beautiful. Sometimes I will recommend a certain platform to watch a movie on like VHS or anything like that, but this film should be watched in the highest definition possible because this film truly is beautiful. As for the story, other than the premise, it's pretty basic. It's classic, "No matter where you come from, anybody can make their dreams come true if you put in the effort" type of moral. It's harmless and an overall good message for kids. Like I said before, this is a "cute" movie. Nothing special or extraordinary, it's just a beautiful looking movie with a cute story with a cute set of likable characters. That good enough for me to recommend Ratatouille for anybody.
