Do not go into this movie wanting a love story because you will not get it. This is a breakup story. Some may say that is a spoiler, but they tell you that right at the beginning of the film. I consider it more of a warning rather than a spoiler. However, as a break-up movie, it's pretty good. The best break-up movie I know is Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but (500) Days of Summer is another great choice. I should also mention that the movie title is a play on words. I thought this movie was going to be about something that happened in the summertime and it feels like it lasts much longer, hence it feels like there are 500 days in summer. But no, Summer is the name of Zoey Deschanel who is the perfect casting for this character. Guys, let me ask you this. Does this girl sound familiar to you? A girl that is a bit quirky who isn't like your typical lulu lemon yoga pants wearing, selfie-taking, Starbucks drinking white girl, who listens to old school rock and roll and is pretty goofy, but just wants to be friends, but leads you on by kissing you, going out on dates and having sex with you. Well, maybe you don't know this girl, but I know plenty of them. And I know how Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Tom is feeling in this movie. He is your average dude who is caught up in this girl's games. This is friend zone the movie. However, it does teach the audience a great lesson. While it may not have worked out, you take the negatives from that relationship and you learn from them and take your learned lessons into a new relationship that sometimes can appear out of nowhere. I think that is all I should say because then I would just be getting into spoilers. A comedy about relationships that I think a ton of people can relate to in this era of dating. Whether you're alone and looking for a movie to watch while you down a bucket of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream or you are looking for something to watch for date night, (500) Days of Summer is a satisfying time!
