Iron Man 2 - Review

The road to Avengers: Infinity War continues with Iron Man 2. Now, I should start off by saying that the general consensus among most Marvel fans is that the first Iron Man film is the best, the second film sucks and the third one, depending on who you ask, is either terrible or amazing. However, I really enjoyed this film but I shouldn't. The story is nowhere near as interesting or as compelling as the first Iron Man film, even though Sam Rockwell is always good in everything he is in, the villains here are weaker versions of Jeff Bridges character in the first film, and the action scenes, while fun, is far from in between. Not only that, but nothing really new happens in this movie. Tony Stark defeats yet another villain of the week and he simply replaces the transmitter in his chest with a new power source. The only real new thing we learn is that S.H.I.E.L.D is starting to take note of Tony Stark's whereabouts. However, this is one of those movies that you enjoy the atmosphere and just being in that universe. The Stark Expo has a very Disney Tomorrowland feel to it which always puts me in a good mood seeing stuff like that. I love seeing old footage of Howard Stark talking about technology and the future. Also, Robert Downey Junior is so likable that I could watch a two-hour movie of him simply driving in his car to the grocery store, buying ingredients, coming home and making a salad. This movie shows us that although the plot may be a little messy, a strong likable character can go a long way. So for that reason, I recommend it to superhero fans. It's nowhere near perfect, but it's an enjoyable time at the movies. On a personal note, I saw this film for the first time in Whistler and the second time right before a trip to Disneyland. This is why I enjoy myself so much when watching this movie. Not only do I enjoy the simple fun tone of Marvel films like this one and I also love the character of Tony Stark, but every time I see this movie, it brings me back to both those vacations. And like I said before, there is a Disneyland type connection in this movie and when I went to Disneyland, they had an Avengers exhibit. The two go hand and hand. Not the best superhero movie out there, but a fun one.
