Incredibles 2 - Review

As soon as this movie started, Brad Bird, the director and voice of Edna Mode, along with various cast members came on screen and told us that they know how long it's been since the first Incredibles movie came out. They discussed how long it takes to make a movie and that they wanted to get this one right. After all of the "excuses", they finally tell us to sit back and enjoy the movie. What is really stuck out is that the message ended with Samuel L. Jackson guaranteeing that we won't be disappointed. Think about this for a second. How many movies do you know start off with a message from the filmmakers and the cast personally guaranteeing that you will like the movie you are about to watch? I can't think of any. Right then, I knew that this movie was either going to be incredible, or it was going to be a huge disappointment. This movie was absolutely incredible. I want to say it's a perfect movie, but I need to give it a few years before I can give it that label, but man oh man do I love this movie. As for the story, I don't want to spoil anything. So I am only going to briefly discuss what we saw in the trailer. A business man wants superheroes to be legalized again and his best way to do that is to market Elastigirl to the public and get the people interested in supers again. Meanwhile, Mr. Incredible is pushed to the sidelines and is given the task of being the stay at home dad. Add in a mystery villain who doesn't want superheroes to return and Elastigirl fights to stop them along with the struggles of Mr. Incredible being a stay at home dad, and you have got yourself a story that is funny, exciting, entertaining, and most importantly, it feels like a continuation of the story rather than a rehash. And what I love about Brad Bird's work is that while it's marketed towards children, the themes and messages are very adult. We think of superheroes as these people who fight crime, but the true superheroes of the real world are the parents. That is something that Mr. Incredible has to learn for himself in this movie. Lastly, the one thing that truly blew me away was the animation. My goodness, this is one of the best looking movies I have ever seen. I went to see this movie with two buddies of mine and we constantly leaned over to each other and said, "That looks spectacular!" On top of that, because this film was animated, there is no restrictions in terms of where the camera can go and what we can see. Because of this, the action sequences rival those of other live action Marvel movies. I was on the edge of my seat and felt exhilarated while watching them. Amazing animation and action mixed with great characters and a compelling story, what more could you want? This movie is truly, incredible.
