Christopher Robin - Review

What an adorable movie. I think that the Winnie the Pooh characters are some of the most beloved characters in all of cinema. I know people who hate Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Minnie and the whole gang, I know people who hate Pikachu and a ton of other children's characters, but I don't think I have ever met anyone who doesn't like Winnie The Pooh. Now the story is nothing new. We've seen the father who is too busy with work that he loses his family before many many times, however, this time we have Winnie the Pooh and friends along for the ride. Ewan McGregor is one of my favourite actors because he is just so likable. While he does start off as the father who thinks play time is a waste of time and someone who is rather unpleasant, once he opens his heart again to the Hundred Acre Wood and the fun it brings, he is a delight to watch. He has done acting with CGI creatures before in films like Star Wars so he was able to pull off the scenes with just him and Pooh extremely well. I really believed that there was a walking teddy bear interacting with everyone. Speaking of our favourite characters from Winnie the Pooh, seeing all of them again is a total treat. Eeyore is as depressing yet funny as ever, Tigger is still our favourite bouncer, Kanga, Roo, and Piglet are as cute as ever. It was interesting to see Rabbit and Owl portrayed as actual animals because it turns out that the actual Christopher Robin didn't have a stuffed rabbit or owl, they just happened to live where the actual Christopher Robin lived. And last but certainly not least, Winnie the Pooh. He is just the most lovable thing put on screen. He is so naive and optimistic all the time, it's wonderful to watch. But by far, the best part of this movie is the message. Doing nothing often leads to something. Today, everyone tends to live anywhere but in the present. Constantly worrying about the future, about relationships, about work, etc. Life can get tough sometimes, but Pooh reminds us that life is happening now. "What day is it?" "Today." "Oh, my favourite day!" Pooh man, that's some deep stuff. While this movie may not be groundbreaking or give us something totally spectacular, it does give us a chance to see our favourite stuffed friends again and it gives us a chance to remember that life is happening right in front of us, let so many of us seem to miss it.
