Yes Man - Review

Now I know that this movie is almost the exact same premise as Liar Liar. Since people like how Jim Carrey couldn't lie, now we get to see Jim Carrey unable to say "No" and must say "Yes" to any opportunity that comes his way. I hadn't seen Liar Liar until a couple years ago, but I saw Yes Man when it came out and it became a staple for family movie night. Once I found out about the Internet movie community and websites like Rotten Tomatoes, I quickly realized that people don't really like this movie and to tell you the truth, I don't really see why. This movie is cute. I don't normally say that about movies, but that is the word I find best describes this movie. Jim Carrey is one of the funniest guys around. He just seems like a guy you would love to have as your crazy uncle that comes to all the family BBQs and says "Hey Kids! Watch this!" and here he is great. His friendship with Bradley Cooper, his romance with Zoey Deschanel and his weird interactions with Rhys Darby are all fun to see and all of them give great laughs. It's a pretty standard story about love and friendship, but what I like about this movie is that I really think this is a great message. Now that I am officially done my schooling and I have joined the work force, it's easy to get in a routine and stick to it. However, life can get pretty dull if you do that and can even make you depressed and make you shoot down any opportunity. This movie tells us to take a chance because we never know what might happen. Jim Carrey's Carl Allen decides to try this tactic and ends up running out of gas in the middle of nowhere, but he ends up meeting the love of his life. He says yes to going into work on Saturday, that is what gets him the promotion. Picking up guitar and taking lessons ends up saving someone's life. Now that I am no longer a child and have joined the adult world, it is a bit scary, but this film tells us that life is full of surprises. Go out there, see the world, you never know what could happen. This movie explores that theme with likeable characters, funny moments and a nice light-hearted feel.
