Men In Black III - Review

Hollywood is definitely in a "sequel and reboot" phase right now. Some people are getting tired of it and I will admit that most movies now feel recycled and unoriginal. However, in a rare instance, Hollywood brings us a sequel that none of us asked for, but we were pleasantly surprised when we got it. Enter Men In Black III. When the second film was simply a retread of the first, the third movie takes the story in new direction we haven't seen before.
At the centre of it of course is Will Smith and although it had been a whole decade after the last movie, it doesn't feel like anytime at all has gone by. Will Smith is still hilarious, charming, charismatic and his chemistry with Tommy Lee Jones is still legendary. This time around though, while we do have Tommy Lee Jones reprising his role as Agent K, we have Josh Brolin joining the cast as a young Agent K and boy does he do a great job. I don't see Josh Brolin attempting a Tommy Lee Jones , I see a young Agent K. His mannerisms. his demeanor, his sense of humour and his chemistry with Will Smith is absolutely spot on.
When they were developing this movie, I'm glad that they found a way to bring in a younger Agent K without going to the prequel route. You still have Will Smith and his charisma, but you can tell that Tommy Lee Jones was getting too old for a franchise like this. Bringing in time travel was a great way to write around that and still have the same aspects from the previous two movies that we love.
If anybody decides to go on a 90's movie marathon and is deciding which franchise to choose, Men In Black is a good choice. Although the second movie is fairly underwhelming, this third entry makes up for it with a fun time travel story and a new approach to this story. Another fun time at the movies!
