Rambo III - Review

While the first film put story above action, and the second film put action above story, Rambo III attempts to give us a nice mix of both. While the story of Rambo III is extremely simple just like the second film, this entry feels like it has more substance because of the inclusion of the mujahideen fighters alongside Rambo on his mission. It gives the film a little layer of heart that the second film didn't have. This film was also a boost in production value, cinematography, and action set-pieces. There is some really good action in the movie and it's a story that has a little more weight to it than the second film. I like to call this the Hollywood Rambo because the first film felt like more of a serious drama and the second film was an all-out cheese-fest of an action film, this film had more of the Spielbergian feel. There is more comic relief, more of an emphasis on a group of people trying to overthrow the big bad villians aka The Soviets, and of course like every 80's action film, you have to have some kid in the mix.

While this film won't blow your socks off by today's standards, it's still a solid action movie with some big set-pieces and a nice level of heart to it.
