Rambo: The Last Blood - Review

The Rambo series gives us one more entry, but was it worth it after all these years? For fans of the series, I would say that although it wasn't a film we were asking for, it's a film that was a fun time to watch.
The easiest way to describe this movie is "Taken" meets "The Equalizer" covered in a coat of "Logan". With Sylvester Stallone being as old as he is, it wouldn't make sense to put him into a current military conflict. It would be absolutely ridiculous to see current American soldiers in the middle east fighting ISIS with John Rambo going in and reeking havoc. Instead, we get Rambo's version of all those movies listed above. The plot of "Taken", with the finale of "The Equalizer" and the tone, feel, location, villains and look of "Logan".
So this film felt the least like a "Rambo" movie and did feel like a return to the seriousness and tragic nature of the first movie. After watching all of the previous movies and seeing John Rambo talk to his step-daughter about how evil men can be, you can see in his eyes just how much he has seen and the trauma he has experienced. So while this film does have the bloodshed you'd come to expect from this franchise, I did feel myself getting more emotionally invested in this movie than any other Rambo sequel. Which means that I was also more emotionally invested in the story because of it.
This film also gave us some hateable villains and a great amount of bloodshed and action which was damn entertaining. I enjoyed Rambo: Last Blood more than I thought I would and to be honest, is the second best film in the franchise.
