Lilo & Stitch - Review

Lilo & Stitch was a movie that I had watched once when I was a kid and I had no interest in seeing it again. However, with the arrival of Disney + and the fact that I am going to Hawaii soon, I figured this would be the perfect time to revisit this movie. So, what have I been missing all these years? Honestly, not much. This story doesn't bring too much new. An alien crash lands on earth and befriends a child and they grow a strong bond between them. To me, this story has been done in better films such as E.T and even Bumblebee. Stitch himself I don't find that cute or funny, the side aliens didn't give me too many laughs, and the story felt very bare. The good stuff in this movie is in the message it is portraying and the two girls, Nanni and Lilo. They act probably the most human out of any main Disney characters, especially children characters. They both have been put into a really terrible situation and it's quite tragic. It's handled very well, except the alien storyline gets in the way and, like Jumanji, I feel like that clashes with the actual message that this movie is trying to portray. Especially in the third act where it becomes a sci-fi action movie... Overall, this movie will speak to certain kids as it has a good message and Stitch may appeal to some people. As for me, I'm glad I saw it, but I wouldn't be considering this movie to be a Disney classic by any means.
