The World Is Not Enough - Review

This movie is extremely frustrating because on one hand, I really do see a great bond movie here. The ideas they bring forward in this movie in terms of character relationships, story elements, twists and turns, villains' evil plans, are all really excellent. The direction is also handled very well with much of the character drama feeling extremely emotionally heavy and the tension was very prevalent. However, this great bond movie is lost in very subpar action scenes, a script that doesn't always flow the best from scene to scene, Denise Richards, and not living up to the potential they put in place for the story and characters.

Much like Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough is an enjoyable movie where I was always engaged throughout, but where Tomorrow Never Dies failed to really have that emotionally driven story or intrigue but excelled in it's action sequences, The World Is Not Enough is almost a direct reversal. This story has the intrigue, the suspense, the character drama and some real solid story ideas, but those elements can never really be fully utilized because of it's drab locations, unexciting action (except for the beginning) and lack of energy.

Both middle Brosnan films are enjoyable films, but they are frustrating because I can tell that in both movies, there is greatness underneath it all. Unfortunately, both got lost in execution. Both films do have their moments and are enjoyable films to watch, it's just a damn shame because these could have been great!
